Who Am I
My name is Brittany, and I am married to an Army Soldier. I’m a lifelong lefty liberal, born in raised in Hippie-Land USA, aka the lovely Seattle, Washington. I wear my Birkenstocks regularly, drink coffee like it’s my requirement to stay alive, and listen to music like “Death Cab for Cutie” and “The Dave Matthews Band.”
I am a rare breed in Military Wives, in that I work full time. Prior to meeting my husband, I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Communication Studies, followed by two years at the University of Denver and a Masters in Public Relations. I met my soon to be hubs shortly after graduate school at my sisters wedding. We were engaged after only five months! It’s been blissful ever since! [Also, for the record, don't get me wrong -- I have absolutely nothing wrong with stay at home wives/moms ... it's just not for me.] I love my job in the marketing and public relations industry, working on post for an Army contractor. My personal and professional life breathes military!
I love working, and I love my career. As mentioned, I’m also extremely liberal, and even more opinionated. This lifestyle, as you can imagine, clashes greatly with the military life that I am currently living in. I am married to a man whom I love dearly, and who has been in the Army for almost six years now. I love it ["it" being the military] for what it is, and let there be no question — I support my husband, his job, and his fellow soldiers.
I started this blog as an outlet for my life. I’m still relatively new to military life and I wanted to express my views on what I was experiencing. I hope that my outlet will be useful to other new military wives out there. But, I am not JUST an army wife. While I will try to stick to military related issues, I also lead a life outside of the Army, so my daily life will trickle in now and then. I have nothing to hide, and am very opinionated, as you will see. If I know you, I will probably write about you at some point. I will not, however, say something that I would not say directly to some body’s face.
I have many obsessions in this world. Peanut Butter being one. Dooce.com being another. Good music, good friends, and good wine are also on the list. I am obsessed with lavender. Obsessed! Cleaning supplies, shampoo, soap, candles, laundry detergent! Anything lavender, I will buy it! I’m crazy, not very organized, not at all spontaneous, and a serious planner. I love politics, and will write about how our current government is affecting my life. I also hate chocolate, unless it’s in a peanut butter cup. Then I will choke it down
But … this is who I am and I’m happy with it!
I invite you to share with me your thoughts, comments, etc. But please remember this [my mom said it best growing up]: If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. You may not agree with what I always have to say, but please remember — this is my place to vent my frustrations, joys, shortcomings, life lessons, and happiness.
Thank you. And enjoy. And PLEASE … feel free to pester me at Brittany@myarmywifelife.com.

Hello
I’m new to Ft.Bragg. We just moved from Ft. Bliss on Mar 28th. We love it here in NC. It is so beautiful.
I’m an Army Wife for a little over a year now. Husband is prior service/re enlisted. I love being an Army Wife also.
Nice to meet you online, maybe we will meet in person during our time here.
Sheila-Army Wife
Sounds like you and I have a lot in common! I’m born and raised in the Northwest (Salem, OR) and am very liberal and knew nothing about the military until I started dating my now husband. None of my family had ever been military, and I was massively against the war in Iraq, so it was difficult balancing my political ideas with my love for and pride in my husband. Now I feel as if I’ve found a happy medium. I am also career oriented (although currently unemplyed – argh!) and not your typical Army wife! I look forward to reading more of your posts and following you on Twitter

Awesome, Erica! It’s nice to “meet” you, and always nice to meet someone who feels the same way! Don’t be a stranger!
I really enjoy your posts, definitely won’t be a stranger
I’m on Twitter – @HellcatBetty. I think i’m following you already. My hubby leaves for his 3rd deployment this coming Monday so I’ll be reaching out to other wives for support
well we are definitely here to help you out! I found you, and am following! I’m looking forward to chatting with you more!
Hey, I just wanted to say hello from Ft. Bliss Texas. I don’t ever reccommend getting stationed here! My husband is a Cav Scout and has been in the Army for six years. Fort Knox for basic and Fort Benning was our home up until last October. Shopping here in EL Paso is great until you need help pr need to check out. They ignore you b/c they know you are Military and I feel b/c I am white. The Mp’s and civillian contracted police will pull you over if you breathe the wrong way. I got a ticket for wearing my seat belt. Officer Mangana, a civillian contracted police officer for Ft. Bliss pulled up beside me on the middle of an intersection and determined I was not wearing it. I had it on the whole time. I just went throught the gate and the guard saw it on me as well as my baby in his car seat! 100 $ ticket for wearing my seat belt! Thanks for letting me vent here! It’s lonely here too. I am a Cincinnati girl stuck in a Mexican desert town!
Hi Beth! Yes, I’ve been to Fort Bliss before (what a misleading name!!) and I definitely don’t ever want to be stationed there! Hang in there!!!
love the new look!
Hi Brittany! I actually came to follow you on Twitter first, before I even knew of your blog. I am an army girlfriend (not a wife… yet) living with my boyfriend at Fort Drum, NY. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your tweets and your blog posts. As someone who is preparing for a long deployment without the benefits of marital status, its nice to know someone can reamin upbeat and productive while their husband is away. Thanks for making me smile, and feel free to follow me back on Twitter (kaylab1). I think we have much in common!

Hi Kayla! Thank you for the comments, and thanks for following me! I was the army girlfriend before I was the army wife, so I can relate! Keep your chin up, and I look forward to talking to you more!
Hi!
Shout outs to another very liberal army wife. Yes, we are a very rare breed indeed. This is a good idea to start a blog, I will follow yours & maybe start my own!
My husband is also deployed. I have two young children and run a small business from home (portait work – drawing/etc) and take classes. I enjoyed reading what you wrote!
Namaste,
Katherine
Hi Brittany!
It’s been really refreshing to find your blog out there. It’s nice to know I’m not the only liberal in the military community. I’m both a veteran and a significant other, so it isn’t as if I don’t understand the lifestyle and don’t support it; however people are constantly mistaking my liberal political views as being anti-this-and-that… They just assume I must agree with them on all issues. Can’t blame them for their beliefs of course, but I can blame them for their assumptions.
Anyways, enough of my little rant. Just wanted to say hello and thank you
Warm regards from Seattle!
Hi!
I am a new Army wife and my husband is currently deployed. My son and I are living in Fort Bragg and having a hard time adjusting to the Army life. I follow your blogs and your tweets and just wanted to thank you for your “ramblings”, as they have been inspiring and encouraging.
This is a wonderful blog! I like the idea of the reality and expression, great job. I will direct some of my network to visit your blog. I am at Fort Bragg / Fayetteville NC area where army wives are abundant and deployment is a natural way of life here. Check me out on facebook or at our site! See ya soon and I will bookmark!

Hi Brittany
Congratulations ….
My name is Deborah, I’m currently in Brazil, I’m engaged to a soldier deployed in Afghanistan.
I am looking for people who can judge what I’m going through.
I’m not accustomed to life in the army, do not understand what is happening ….
I received a news that my fiancee was injured in an attack days ago.
And that is worrying me a lot because I’m not there, and I wish I could take care of him. The only news I got was that he is weak in critical but stable condition
I’m depressed need to talk to someone, no one here understands what I’m living.
I love him very much and I am very afraid of losing him, we made plans to get married in June, is when he retires from the army …..
Anyway thank you very much for your attention
God bless
I am an Army officer (stationed at Fort Bliss, TX) and an Army wife (married to an Army NCO who is deployed to Iraq)! Thanks for your blog! I just found it today and am a fan!
I just felt compelled to comment because there were several women discussing how much they hate Fort Bliss/El Paso. I’m originally from Michigan, so El Paso is very different than what I’m used to – however, I’ve really started to feel at home in El Paso, and I’m appreciating it for its uniqueness and beauty. I know it’s hard to ignore a bad experience, but if you let that dictate your whole experience, then I think you’re missing out on a lot! Just wanted to defend the post we’re at; we like it a lot!
Hey Jane! Thank you for the comment! I agree — every place is different, but you can also get used to it. I definitely don’t LOVE where we are stationed, but over the past few years, I’ve grown to enjoy the little things about it. Glad you like Bliss!!!
Thank for the comment
Brittany
Hey there!:) My husband just finished BCT in December and we are now at Ft. Benning while he completes Officer Candidate School. Such a relief to find some other career oriented/liberal wives out there! I just graduated from college and am pursuing my Masters as we speak. My husband has been training now for the past 4 months and I must say that while I am SO very over and frustrated that we get so little time together, I love the Army life. I know it will be good for us:) Hope everyone else out there had a great week!
Heather
Hey Heather!! Welcome! I’m glad you stopped by. Don’t be a stranger around here and good luck with everything!
Brittany,
I am sooooooo happy I found your blog. I thought I am the only one out there – army wife, liberal, working, no kids yet… Have I mentioned I don’t have many friends around here?
We’re stationed in Fort Jackson, SC. Not much going on here. I am still relatively new to the Army – we got married in the summer’07 and my husband deployed to Afghanistan right away.
I keep my writing job, I am Bulgarian originally and I write for magazines and newspapers back home.
Keep us posted!
Vanya
Hi Vanya! Thank you so much for stopping by, and thanks for the comment! Please don’t be a stranger!
Hello! I just found your blog through To the Nth (we are fellow award winners!). Nice to meet you! Looking forward to reading future posts.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by and commenting
I can’t wait to check out your blog, either
Great blog! I just stumbled on it while looking for some Army Wife blogs because I too have a military blog {& also a cooking, decorating, & thoughts blog in one!}. I’ve definitely bookmarked your blog & will be back! Thanks for doing such a great job!
Hi, Brittany!
I am a relatively new Air Force wife, and I share your experience and opinions almost entirely. I was a single mother before I married my husband last April, and I run a business from home, now. I love the military, but I can’t stand all of the venom that is directed towards our commander in chief for all of the wrong reasons. I fanned you on facebook, and followed on twitter, and you are welcome to hit me up any time you want if you would like to hear from another branch as well
We really aren’t all that different.
Hi! Thank you for your comments!!!
I found you on twitter! Can’t wait to get to know you
