I’m throwing this out there, and it really should be no shock to anybody who knows me or reads this site regularly, but I’m going to say that Obama KILLED it at the State of the Union Address last night. He was well-spoken, articulate, fierce and blunt. I always enjoy listening to him speak, and understand his points, where he’s coming from, and the direction that he’s trying to take this country in.
With that said, Chez over at Deus Ex Malcontent has written an excellent piece (as always) that accurately portrays how I feel in regards to what happened last night. Basically, he said it WAY better than I could. My favorite part, in particular, is this little snippet (emphasis mine):
One of the things I respect most about Barack Obama is what perpetually infuriates the extreme elements within both parties: They call him a centrist who in trying to please everyone can’t please anyone. While I fully understand the dangers of taking the middle road, especially when your political enemies in the opposition party will always attack you because that’s what they’re programmed to do, deep-down most Americans want a president willing to represent all Americans. Granted, those who hate Barack Obama, the true lunatic fringe given a resonant voice by Fox News and talk radio, will likely never change their minds about him; the guy could reanimate the dessicated corpse of Ronald Reagan and together they could save a busload of unborn Christian fetuses from going over a cliff while singing I Love This Bar in two-part harmony and the Palin Nation still wouldn’t stop calling him a socialist, Marxist, foreign, terrorist-loving whatever-the-hell. But the fact is that — and how many times can I say this — pipe dream or not, this country cannot rebound from its current crisis without some form of bipartisanship. It just can’t be done.
Obama realizes this, and hopefully he convinced at least a few of his critics, and even more of the average Americans who don’t already have a preconceived partisan opinion, to do the same. And if he didn’t get through the the people in the former group, let’s hope the ones in the latter finally speak the hell up and put them in their place. Because our country can’t afford to be hamstrung by stubborn ideologues for even one more day.
The train has to leave, with or without you on it.
Anyways — check out the full article. And go Obama. Major WIN last night from this girl.

I also gave it 2 thumbs way up. I don’t usually watch (because I get so aggravated), but I was impressed.
I love Chez. I don’t think there’s ever been a blog post I didn’t wholeheartedly agree with. I wish I was that eloquest/sardonic sometimes.
I couldnt agree with him, and you, more! Very well said!
You know, it’s not the President who needs to convince me of anything right now, it’s Congress. They all need to go back to Kindergarten and learn how to work together and compromise. Our President can’t get much of anything done while Congress spends so much time sniping at each other.
I couldn’t agree with you more, Amanda. It’s true — you can have all the great ideas in the world, but if it never makes it to the Presidents desk, it can’t happen. People forget, I think, that it’s not necessarily making/stopping things from happening right now. EVERYTHING needs to go through the House and the Senate first — then to desk of the President. When Congress can’t work together, then nothing will ever work. Period.
Good comment
until congress gets off their respective asses, until the Dems start getting out of their own way and do something USEFUL, nothing at all will get done. NOTHING. and oh, yeah, the Pres hit that one so far outa the park, it’s still flying. His followup to the Republican group in Baltimore… the cherry on that cake!
