My Army Wife Life

“Loose Lips Sink Ships”

Operational Security (OPSEC) is a big deal around these military parts. Especially in a time of war. We never know who or what is collecting our information and trying to use it against us. I for one am not a huge believer in the “big brother” theory, and I do enjoy sharing my experiences about being a Military Spouse on this site. However, when it comes to my husbands safety, that takes priority. So, if you think sometimes that I am being a little vague, well — there’s reason behind it.

In civilian terms, the ten basic OPSEC rules, according to the DoD, are as follows:

Don’t discuss current or future destinations/ ports of call/deployment bases .
Don’t discuss current or future operations or missions.
Don’t discuss current or future dates and times of exercises or missions.
Don’t discuss readiness issues and numbers.
Don’t discuss specific training equipment.
Don’t discuss people’s names and operations.
Don’t speculate about current or future operations.
Don’t spread rumors about current, future, or past operations or movements.
Don’t assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you; he/she is.
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC when using email, phone, chat rooms and message boards.

I try to follow these as best I can on this blog, so please be sure you follow them as well — both on here, and in other forums (or on your own blog if you have one).

Thank you so much for this very important reminder. There’s nothing wrong with discussing our military lives, but we do have to be very careful about how much we share! If you don’t mind, I think I will post something to this same effect on my blog. I won’t copy what you’ve written, & I’ll do a link-back! My readers need to know what I’m so hush hush about things sometimes :)

Thank you again!

Thanks for sharing this! I was trying to find the best way to say this on my blog as well. Our guys are the most important, no matter what we want to say. And thanks for the blog. I feel like I’m in the same boat as you as far as my personal views and ending up in the military world. Thanks for the blog!
