I was cruising through CNN.com today, and I stumbled upon their daily ticker, which, if you’re a CNN reader, gives little tidbits of news throughout the day. I was reading through, and found this little news piece.
At first I thought to myself “great … Sarah effing Palin again, overreacting.”
And as I read further into the article, which was discussing her “accepting” David Letterman’s 2nd apology, something suddenly hit a chord [which really, is nothing new, because everything that woman says hits a chord]. But what she said was this:
“Letterman certainly has the right to ‘joke’ about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction,” Palin said in a statement. “And this is all thanks to our U.S. Military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America’s Right to Free Speech – in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect.”
Are you FREAKING KIDDING ME??! Would somebody PLEASE shut this woman up??!!! Please, Palin, for the sake of all of us, stop exploiting the military for your own personal gain.
The fact of the matter is that these two things — Letterman’s joke and the United States Military — have NOTHING IN COMMON. Was Letterman’s joke out of line? Probably. Is it fair to bring the military in just to try and make yourself more valiant?? Yeah, no so much.
Why can’t you accept your life for what it is, and SHUT THE HELL UP? Go back to [poorly] governing your state, dealing with your un-wed mother of a daughter [who is out preaching about abstinence?? REALLY??], and realize that your fifteen minutes of fame are up. And please, PLEASE stop exploiting the military. My husband isn’t over there fighting for your stupidity.

UH! I can’t stand to hear her talk. I am praying she does not show up in 2012.
She’s a gem for the democrats! Ha! But I agree with you … hearing her talk makes me want to throw things and scream very loudly!
I can’t agree more with what you said. She gives a bad name to women. She is such a whiney cry baby. I can’t stand the thought of her.
You got it in ONE! HOW do those two things, an admittedly STUPID joke by a nighttime comedian, and the United States Military, even belong in the same paragraph??? HOW>?????
LAW
You know how I feel about her/this. Ugh. She makes me want to toss my cookies… she needs to just go away! And yeah, Swiss is TOTALLY over there so she can be an outspoken moron… thanks for minimizing his service! BLECH!
I agree with you what you said. I like reading the news about military at http://www.uniformeddate.com/news/143 The lastest news you can find them on it.
I know you don’t like her and that’s fine but I really don’t think she’s exploiting the military. Yes, her comment was a little over-the-top but she was just expressing her gratitude for our freedom of free speech. That is something we can thank our military for. She just didn’t word it well and it felt political, but at the end of the day she is letting it settle instead of fueling the fire. If she really wanted to use all of this for personal gain she would have kept it going.
I respectfully disagree. If she wanted to just settle it, she would have dropped it after the FIRST apology. If she didn’t want to use it for personal gain, she wouldn’t have made statement after statement after statement on the issue — a bad joke by a mediocre (in my opinion) late night talk show host. A joke that definitely wasn’t the first of it’s kind.
And the whole “let’s thank our military for protecting our freedom of speech” is a whole other issue and a whole other blog post.
Last I checked, our military wasn’t fighting for OUR freedom. They are out fighting for somebody elses. We haven’t had to fight for our freedom in a VERY long time. The military and the Bill of Rights are NOT the same. If she wants to be grateful for her freedom of speech, then thank our founding fathers, who gave her that right.
NOT the military.
I too respectfully disagree. We should just leave it at that.
