My Army Wife Life

in Blogging Life

Typically when I am doing my writing for this blog, or any anything else for that matter, I do it from the comfort of our very worn-in couches. I always sit in the corner closest to the lamp on the end table, and almost always am on the “large” couch, giving the pups plenty of room to snuggle up next to me.

I also almost never get as much done as I set out to accomplish, thank in large part to that pesky dvr and the 52″ flat screen we bought while Mr. Staff Sergeant [yay for his promotion being official!] was home on R&R. It’s always more fun to pay attention to the drama on the The Hills than it is to, oh I don’t know, focus on something that may actually make me a few bucks.

So, I’ve moved my work station. We do have an “office” but it’s a cluttered mess, full of stuff that needs to be boxed up and stored, two very large dog crates where I keep two of the three pups during the day, and a desk that is way to over crowded with “this needs to be files” type of paperwork, Cd’s, our desktop computer, and a load of other crap. I have an anxiety attack just looking in there … which is why I just keep the door shut. But frankly, even when it’s in immaculate condition, it’s not warm and fuzzy and creatively inspiring. I get more of a “I hate this room” feel when I’m in there that isn’t really conducive to doing any type of writing whatsoever.

Which is why I go to the couch.

But today … I’m in our dining room. I know, it’s not quite the same, but we have this awesome dining room table that was gifted to us at Christmas a few years ago [thanks, Dad!] that never gets used unless I have people over. I definitely don’t eat here while Army Man [can you tell I'm trying out new nicknames? Ha!] is gone because, well, sitting at a table all by yourself with nobody to talk to is lonely. LONELY. So, I avoid it at all costs. It really just sort of gathers things: coats on the back of the chairs, markers and pens from when my girlfriends daughter was “coloring” a few weeks ago, books that for whatever reason ended up there, etc.

So last night when I was cleaning my house in anticipation for girls night tonight [woohoo!] I dusted it off, and decided that’s where I would work. And here I sit, with a cup of coffee next to me and one furry baby under my feet. It’s not quite a desk per say, but it works for me for now. I can focus on my tutorials without any distractions. I’ve got a couple of blogs to write [this was one of them] and am working on some redesigning of the website [hopefully a new, more efficient website will make it's appearance here in a couple of weeks! *fingers crossed*]. Eventually, when I get around to it, I will get the office organized, buy a new desk, and make it a little more “warm” than it currently is. But it’s just not in the budget for anytime soon.

So … dining room table it is.
