I’ve posted in the past about how much I love my FRG and how an FRG can be really good if the people put the effort into it. My husband has been a part of his current company for a little over three years now, which means I’ve been active in the FRG for those three years (two of which consisted of deployments).
And now I’ve done the unthinkable … taken over as FRG leader.
When I committed to doing this, I sort of had a “oh crap” moment. What was I thinking?? I know all the work our previous FRG leader put into it. She was FABULOUS, and oh so awesome at what she did. So there’s that to live up to. However, FRG’s are typically more active during a time of deployment, and since we’re past that, with no deployment on the horizon, I’m hoping that it will be a little less low key.
But, we will see.
In all actuality, I’m somewhat excited about it. Our company is small in the grand scheme of things and typically very close-knit. My only hurdle thus far has been getting our CO to cooperate on even the tiniest level. Yes, CPT X, I don’t mind taking over the FRG, but how about you ask me first before telling everybody else, including the Colonel, that I will be doing so. Kthx. And then there is the matter of you know, getting names, phone numbers and email addresses. So yes — this may be a bit challenging, but I have the support of the FRSA and can walk in there and am not afraid to lay some smack down if need be!
So, we will see. I hoping that some great things will come from this and that overall, it will be an excellent experience. Any of you out there in Internet land ever run your FRG? Any great advice that you think I should know??

You’ll be great! I have a new FRG leader every few weeks, so I know the importance of a committed person who actually cares about the families. I’m hoping, due to the upcoming deployment, that my new ones will be better. Good luck! You’ll be great.
I gave you an award today on my blog. Not sure if you are into those or not, but stop by when you have a minute.
Good luck… I always love new challenges.
I barely know and I just recently started reading your blog BUT I know you will be a great FRG leader. I want to be one myself… some day (right now there is no FRG – we are at Walter Reed)… because in the past I haven’t had good FRG leaders. They were slacking in terms of organization and whatnot.
Have you returned home from deployment during the past six months? Military personnel are needed to complete an online questionnaire about romantic relationships after deployment.
Participants will earn a $15 Target or Wal-Mart Gift Card (your choice). The online questionnaire will take approximately 30 minutes.
You are eligible if (1) you are 18 years of age or older, (2) you are currently in a romantic relationship, and (3) you have returned from deployment during the past six months. Participation is limited to only one partner per couple.
To participate, visit this website:

Brittnay, you will be fantastic, I have no doubt. Do me a favor and e-mail me when you have a chance…I’ll give you my two cents on FRG leadership (Bragg is my old stomping grounds), and I could use your input on some stuff as well. Also, Stefani at Walter Reed – please e-mail me, we’re working on establishing better family support at Walter Reed. We’re meeting this Saturday Feb 20th 11am at the Malogne House to discusss.
