My Army Wife Life

Ta Ta to the Ta Ta’s!

by Brittany on February 2, 2010

in Me Myself and I

Alright, we’re crossing a line and going in to personal territory here — hold on to your hats!

Last week I went to my primary care physician and asked for a referral to have my boobs chopped. That’s right, these suckers are going away. And I am SO EXCITED.

I was a C in the eighth grade. A frickin’ C. And it only went up from there. Even when I was in the best shape of my life, I was a DD in high school and College. It sucked and still does suck, because I am so far past THAT right now. It’s been a topic of conversation among family and friends (Brittany has big boobs! Weeeee!) — funny at times and uncomfortable at others, so there is a slight self-consciousness that comes along with it. Not to mention the constant back pain, the permanent indentations in my shoulders from my bra straps, etc …

So, I made an executive decision about my body, and I’m having them reduced. And I’m saying it again, I am so excited.

The way Tricare works with this is that I had to get a referral to see a plastic surgeon. This happened last Thursday. Friday I got a call from the on-post hospital saying that they had reviewed my request, and would be referring me off-post (which is fine, really.) Today I called Tricare and got my authorization number, and found out who the doctor would be. I’m waiting to get my evaluation appointment scheduled with him, and then after that he has to write a letter to Tricare stating that it is medically necessary for me to have this procedure. Once Tricare approves that, then I can schedule the actual surgery.

This, my friends, is a perfect example of how Universal Health Care works. It’s not instant, but it works. Granted, this isn’t a life or death situation, but if it were, I’m sure the process would be much different. And it’s FREE. I don’t have to pay for it, so this progressive liberal/borderline socialist is OK with that!

But I digress. The real issue here is that I’m THROWING A PARTY! Once I get the surgery actually scheduled, we will be throwing a “Ta Ta to the Ta Ta’s” Party! My darling husband will be wearing black, he says, because he will be in mourning. We’re going to have Hooters cater it, boobie straws in all the drinks, and it will be an all around good time. Jealous? You should be — because it’s going to be total awesomesauce.

Either way, I’m excited (have I mentioned that yet?). I’m not going rediculously small, but smaller than what I am now. It will be nice to wear smaller shirts, buy cute bras, not wear three sports bras when I workout — but mostly just feel better about MYSELF and my self image. Anyways, updates will come when applicable.

And of course pictures from the Ta Ta party!

********************

Update #1: I got a call back from the referred plastic surgeon, and they scheduled me for THURSDAY. As in the day after tomorrow! So I will be jetting out of work early, right after lunch, and making a two hour drive to see this guy (who happens to be a Army Reserve and who is also on staff at the Veterans Hospital!). Hooray for having an awesome boss who told me to “do what I need to do!” to make this surgery happen. Woot! So, this may all happen sooner than later! AWESOME.

LMAO! You make me laugh. This is awesome. My close friend in high school went through the same thing, and she said it was the best decision she ever made. She was 5’2″ with DDD bra. And now shes a C and happier than ever. You go Brittany! I’m sorry for your hubby but I think he’ll find your new look to be just as… um… effective. :)

I’m so glad that you are able to get this done and that Tricare is cooperating. You are right, it’s not a perfect system and it doesn’t always bring about instantaneous results, but it’s there when you need it. I so wish I was coming to this party!

Awesomeness! :) A friend of mine was in a similar situation. However, she got it done before she turned 18. Problem: Her boobies were not done growing. Now she is back to her pre-surgery size.

Hey, we should swap boobie mass. I got almost nothing here. :)

Ha! Yeah, I’ll be 30 in January, so I think I’m done growing for the most part!!

Sounds like you’ve planned a fitting farewell to a couple of ladies who have overstayed their welcome. Best wishes for a smooth process all around!

As a former back pain sufferer, while mine was from a car wreck and not a large rack, I can relate to wanting the pain to go away. Lots of luck with the surgery, and have a blast at the party!

Wow. Thats a big decision, but good for you for doing what you think is best for you. I hope that everything works out wonderfully for you. I know a few people that have gotten reductions.. and you know not one of them regrets it :-)

Bye ladies!

I think you might be going about this the wrong way – if you get a brow lift and some botox instead, you could be an East cost Speidi.

HA! That made me giggle. SO true, though ;) Maybe I should reconsider …. ;)

I had wanted to do this for years and when I’d mention it to folks I’d get very mixed reactions. Ha ha, now rather than reduced I just need them lifted. Hats off.. or rather Ta Ta’s off to you for going thru with it! Best of luck with the surgery.

I had my M’s removed 10 yrs 2 months ago. Best decision ever. And for the people who just don’t get that. DDD=F I was a 36 DDDDDDDDDD. I Wore a 48DDD bra to cover them. My male friends took my bras, cut them in half and wore them as hats that covered their heads. That’s beyond big. That’s beyond sexy. That’s to the “get these things off of me” point.
Went down to a 36 C. Water hit my belly when I showered! Went bra-less for a whole year, b/c I could! Had it done before Xmas, and people asked if I had lost 75-100 pounds. Nop. Just 6. (Picture 6 pounds of butter. That’s what they took off to leave me a C!)
Hooah for getting it done. You’ll love it!

That’s what I’m shooting for …. a C. And you’re right. Being this big is beyond sexy or comfortable. I can’t imagine what you went through! I think the fact that I won’t have to wear a bra (because you know those suckers will be PERKY!) is the most exciting. I’ve been wearing a bra since I was 12 years old. I’m over it. At least for a little while!!

Happy for you that you are getting medical benefits as an enrolled person. To assume this would be as effective in a world of paying benefits for everyone is beyond a stretch. :) Regular Canadians testify to it daily. The citizens and honest providers, not the propped up spokespeople our media sends out…

That said, best to you and speedy recovery.

How exciting! I’ve been a DD forever and a day, and I am going to see about getting them chopped while he is gone or shortly after he gets back. My husband would go into mourning too, but he doesn’t have to try to run with these girls!
